Launch of the New 100-Hryvnia Banknotes

According to ХВИЛЯ: Starting June 16, the National Bank of Ukraine will introduce redesigned 100-hryvnia notes into circulation. This denomination is the last to receive a refreshed look, completing a system-wide upgrade. On the reverse side, the upper-right corner now features the patriotic slogan 'SLAVA UKRAINI! HEROYAM SLAVA!' ('Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the Heroes!'). Apart from this addition, all other design and security elements remain identical to those found on the 2014-series notes.

The updated 100-hryvnia bills will first be distributed to banks, cash-in-transit companies, and cash processing firms from June 16. The release of this note marks the end of a modification process for the entire hryvnia banknote series, which the NBU began in August 2024 to coincide with the 33rd anniversary of Ukraine’s independence.

Previous Banknotes and Significance of the Changes

It is important to note that older banknotes remain legal tender and will continue to circulate alongside the new ones. The updated notes have been phased in gradually:

  • 500 and 1,000 hryvnia notes: introduced on August 8, 2024;
  • 50 hryvnia notes: introduced on August 23, 2024;
  • 20 hryvnia notes: introduced on August 21, 2025;
  • 200 hryvnia notes: introduced on February 25, 2026.

With the release of the new 100-hryvnia note, this major phase of Ukraine’s monetary system modernization is now complete.

Updating the currency represents a key step in strengthening the country’s financial infrastructure and improving its resilience to modern challenges. The inclusion of the patriotic slogan on the banknote also carries symbolic weight, reflecting the national spirit and unity of Ukrainian society. Ultimately, these design enhancements are expected to boost public confidence in the national currency and support its long-term stability.

As the National Bank of Ukraine completes its redesign of the 100-hryvnia note, it is crucial to understand the broader context of these changes. The withdrawal of older 50 and 200 hryvnia banknotes from circulation marks a significant shift in the country's monetary landscape.
