Nestor Shufrych in SBU detention center: new suspicions of financing the Russian Guard and conditions of confinement
The situation with Nestor Shufrych
According to Главком: People's Deputy Nestor Shufrych is held in the detention center of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) on charges of treason. He is a representative of the banned party 'Opposition Platform – For Life'. Shufrych is in a cell of 12 square meters, intended for two inmates, but he has been held there alone for two years and four months.
The last visit of the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets to Shufrych took place in early December 2025, as confirmed by the ruling of the appellate court made on November 10, 2025.
Charges and investigation
In September 2023, Shufrych was notified of suspicion of treason. Further investigations revealed new circumstances, notably, in February 2024, Shufrych received another suspicion related to financing the Russian Guard in Crimea. It is known that in 2016, a company controlled by Shufrych paid 500 thousand Russian rubles for the security of an unfinished sanatorium.
On September 15, 2023, Shufrych was transferred to the SBU detention center. On January 6, 2026, the Kyiv appellate court made a ruling that changed Shufrych's preventive measure, allowing a bail of 33.2 million hryvnias to be posted. These events indicate the length of the investigation and the existence of serious charges against the deputy.
The situation surrounding Nestor Shufrych highlights the importance of combating state crimes in Ukraine, particularly in the context of the war with Russia.
The charges brought against Shufrych reflect a threat to national security, which is especially relevant amid current challenges. The investigation of the deputy's case may have significant consequences for the political situation in the country, especially considering his connections with the banned party and potential cooperation with Russian structures.
