At the border between Germany and Poland, checks have been intensified: police and customs officers are stopping cars, inspecting luggage, and confiscating prohibited materials, primarily illegal fireworks. The increase in control is linked to the approach of the winter holidays. This is reported by inPoland.

Checks at the German-Polish Border

In recent days, German officers have been stopping cars more often that are entering from Poland and inspecting luggage for prohibited goods. The primary focus is on fireworks, the sale and use of which is strictly regulated in Germany. Authorities remind that with each approaching holiday, the risk of illegal importation of cheaper but dangerous fireworks from Poland increases.

On November 17, police in Bautzen discovered 16 DUM BUM category F3 firecrackers in the car of a 32-year-old Pole. A special license is required for their use, which the driver did not have. Legal proceedings were initiated against him for violating the Explosives Act.

Use of Fireworks in Germany

Legislation establishes clear rules. Key restrictions are as follows:

  • category F2 is sold only from December 28 to 31

  • fireworks can only be used on New Year's Eve

  • in Berlin, Munich, and several other cities, there are zones of total prohibition

  • only certified products of categories F1 and F2 with CE marking are allowed.

Violators face confiscation of all fireworks and hefty fines. Despite the restrictions, many Germans and Poles continue to buy illegal fireworks due to lower prices and lack of certification.

Germany warns: checks will continue and become even stricter before the holidays.
