The NERC wants to increase the gas distribution tariff by 160%: why businesses are protesting
Increase in gas distribution tariffs in Ukraine
According to Главком: The National Commission for State Regulation in the Spheres of Energy and Public Utilities (NERC) intends to raise the gas distribution tariff by 50-160%. This move has raised concerns among businesses, which consider such an increase economically unreasonable, especially in wartime conditions.
Chairman of the Association of Building Materials Producers, Kostyantyn Saliy, expressed his position regarding NERC's intentions, stating that businesses cannot be indifferent to the profits of regional gas companies. He emphasized that during wartime, energy companies should share the burdens with the entire country, rather than shifting them onto consumers. Saliy added that if businesses incur losses during the war, it is a normal situation, as factories producing building materials operate under similar conditions. However, he said that these enterprises do not pass all their losses onto the consumer.
Call to review the tariff increase
The Federation of Employers of Ukraine (FEU) also called on NERC to review the increase in natural gas distribution tariffs in 2026. They noted that the decision to increase tariffs is economically unjustified and could lead to destabilization in the economy. Some regional gas companies are already proposing to raise distribution tariffs by 87-120%, which raises additional questions about the appropriateness of such actions under current conditions.
The increase in gas distribution tariffs in Ukraine is becoming an important issue in the context of the economic situation caused by the war. Many enterprises are already experiencing financial difficulties, and such changes could have serious consequences for their operations and the overall stability of the economy. In conditions where enterprises are trying to survive, such an increase in tariffs could lead to rising prices for goods and services, which, in turn, will affect the well-being of the population.
