New EU Rules on Artificial Intelligence Divide Tech Giants

New EU Rules on Artificial Intelligence
Нові правила ЄС щодо штучного інтелекту викликали суперечки серед великих технологічних компаній.

One week before the new General Purpose Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) regulations come into effect, which will affect tools like ChatGPT and Gemini, it has become clear how companies feel about signing the voluntary EU Code of Practice on GPAI.

The American company Anthropic, developer of the AI assistant Claude as a competitor to OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini, has become the latest company to announce its intention to sign the Code.

'We believe the Code promotes the principles of transparency, safety, and accountability - values that Anthropic has long championed for advanced AI development,'

- the company's statement reads, as reported by Euronews.

Earlier last week, OpenAI also announced its intention to sign the document, claiming that Europe must 'seize this moment to empower Innovators to innovate and Builders to build for the future of Europe.'

Microsoft President Brad Smith told Reuters that his company is also likely to sign the agreement. Earlier this year, Smith stated that Microsoft wants to be the 'voice of reason' amid rising geopolitical tensions.

AI market players are actively preparing to sign the EU Code of Transparency, which will facilitate the use of innovations in artificial intelligence, ensuring transparency, safety, and responsible practices in the field.
