Nvidia Launches GeForce Trading Card Series

According to НВ — Техно: On July 10 at 6:00 PM, Nvidia announced the debut of its GeForce Trading Cards, a collectible series celebrating the company's graphics processor history. The first set features 14 distinct cards showcasing key products, including the NV1 multimedia processor from 1995 and the GeForce 256, introduced in 1999 as Nvidia's first GPU. The collection also highlights tech demos such as Bubble, Chameleon, and Medusa.

These cards won't be sold commercially; instead, they will be given away for free through official social media channels. Distribution will take place at events including:

  • Bilibili World 2026
  • QuakeCon 2026
  • gamescom 2026

Limited quantities of the card sets will be available, boosting their collectible appeal.

RAM Shortage Crisis

Separately, the industry is grappling with a severe memory shortage, dubbed the RAMpocalypse. This crisis stems from demand for AI chips, which now consumes roughly 40% of global DRAM production. Large-scale AI projects require hundreds of thousands of additional DRAM wafers each month.

'The situation is unprecedented, and no company is immune to its effects.' - T.M. Row

Row also noted that the shortage could impact not only smartphones but also televisions and other consumer electronics. This summer, Apple, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo have already raised prices on select devices, reflecting broader strain in the component market.

The launch of the GeForce Trading Cards series underscores Nvidia's effort to both highlight its legacy and engage tech enthusiasts and collectors. Meanwhile, the ongoing memory shortage poses serious challenges for the electronics market, heightening interest in Nvidia's latest products and technologies as component demand remains elevated. This could shape the company's future production and development strategies amid an unstable market environment.

As Nvidia celebrates its legacy with the launch of collectible trading cards, the broader tech industry faces significant challenges due to ongoing memory shortages. This situation not only affects graphics cards but also poses risks for major players like Apple, whose government contracts may be jeopardized by their plans to source chips from a Chinese manufacturer. The intertwined fate of these companies highlights the critical importance of supply chain stability in the current market landscape.
