Introduction of Mandatory Vaccination in Ukraine

Starting January 1, 2026, mandatory vaccination against 11 infectious diseases will be implemented in Ukraine, including vaccination against the human papillomavirus (HPV). This decision entails changes in vaccination schedules for newborns and children, aimed at increasing the population's immunization level.

List of Infectious Diseases

Mandatory vaccination will cover the following 11 infectious diseases:

  • tuberculosis
  • hepatitis B
  • measles
  • mumps
  • rubella
  • polio
  • diphtheria
  • tetanus
  • whooping cough
  • Hib infection
  • HPV

Vaccination against HPV will be free for girls aged 12-13 years, for whom a 9-valent vaccine will be purchased.

Vaccination schedules will also undergo changes. For example, hepatitis B vaccination will occur at 2-4-6-18 months. Vaccinations for measles, mumps, and rubella are planned to be conducted at 1 and 4 years of the child's life. Tuberculosis vaccination, which will be performed via BCG vaccination, will be conducted 24 hours after birth. Additionally, starting January 1, 2026, a full transition to inactivated polio vaccine is planned.

These changes are aimed at improving children's health in Ukraine and reducing the risk of diseases that may have serious consequences for their health.

The introduction of mandatory vaccination in Ukraine is an important step in combating infectious diseases that can negatively impact children's health.

The implementation of new vaccination schedules and free vaccination against HPV for girls aged 12-13 years can significantly increase immunization rates among the young population. This decision also aligns with global health trends where immunization is considered one of the most effective means of disease prevention.
