Elite Cars and Over 22 Million Hryvnias Seized in Raids on Top National Police Officials
Raids Target Senior Leadership of Ukraine’s National Police
According to Главком: Authorities have seized assets and cash totaling more than 22.6 million hryvnias during searches of high-ranking National Police officials. Five individuals involved in the scheme have been detained, including police chiefs from the Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, and Zhytomyr regions. They are accused of accepting illicit benefits on an especially large scale.
The confiscated items include:
- six luxury vehicles,
- five Swiss-made watches,
- firearms and bladed weapons,
- mobile phones and cash in multiple currencies.
The searches were carried out at National Police offices in the Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, and Zhytomyr regions.
Detained Officials Named
Among those arrested are Serhiy Bezpalko, head of the Main Department of the National Police in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast; Volodymyr Yatsyuk, deputy head of the same department; Andriy Tkachyk, first deputy head of the Ternopil Oblast department; and Illia Hulevatyi, deputy head of the Zhytomyr Oblast department. A driver from the vehicle fleet of the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Central Service Unit, who acted as an intermediary, was also taken into custody.
The driver faces charges of incitement and complicity in the receipt of illegal benefits by an official, including repeated offenses and prior conspiracy with a group. The officials’ actions are being investigated under Article 368, Part 4 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Motions are currently being prepared for the court to determine pre-trial restrictions.
The investigation is being conducted with support from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the head of the National Police, and the National Police’s Internal Security Department.
This case highlights serious issues within Ukraine’s law enforcement agencies, particularly high-level corruption.
