According to hvylya.net: The Minister of Energy, Herman Halushchenko, stated that the occupation of the largest nuclear power plant in Europe - the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant - threatens the renaissance of nuclear energy that is happening around the world.

This was reported by the Ministry of Energy.

'Some global companies are investing precisely in nuclear energy. And each has their own explanations as to why… One of them is the investment in artificial intelligence, which is almost impossible without nuclear energy. It is very important that we see a true revival of nuclear energy, and I am very glad that Ukraine is one of the countries that is following this path and creating opportunities for nuclear renaissance,' the minister noted during a discussion at the event 'Clean Industrial Transformation: The Strategic Role of Ukraine in the EU Agenda,' which took place in Rome ahead of the Ukraine Recovery Conference URC 2025.

At the same time, Herman Halushchenko emphasized that there are real threats to this progress.

'But what is happening now in many countries can be destroyed in one day - by one accident at the ZNPP. And this is indeed a threat that exists daily - not only due to the Ukrainian nuclear power plant, not only because the Russians illegally seized it and still control it. This will have consequences for the entire global development of nuclear energy,' the minister noted.

The Safety of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant for Nuclear Energy in the World

The head of the Ministry of Energy noted that at the station occupied by the Russians, the basic principles of nuclear and radiation safety are not being observed, and representatives of the IAEA mission, who are at the ZNPP, do not have full access to all facilities of the plant to monitor the situation.

'The situation with the Zaporizhzhia NPP is a key issue for nuclear energy in the world right now. For us, it is a matter of recovery. For the world - a matter of nuclear safety, security, and investments in the nuclear sector,' Herman Halushchenko summarized.

The Minister of Energy emphasized that the occupation of the Zaporizhzhia NPP by Russia poses a serious threat to nuclear energy in Ukraine and in the world as a whole. Unauthorized access to the plant and violation of safety principles can lead to serious consequences for the nuclear energy industry. The situation at the ZNPP is crucial not only for Ukraine but for the entire global nuclear sector.
