Current Situation in Occupied Crimea

According to Главком: Electricity has been completely cut off across the occupied Crimean peninsula after a fresh wave of strikes, triggering widespread blackouts in every city and district. The hardest-hit area is the Rozdolne district, where not only power but also water supply and mobile networks have gone down. The local energy company Krymenergo has launched emergency repair efforts, but officials have refused to guarantee that electricity will be restored by the end of the day.

What Caused the Blackout and Its Fallout

In the early hours of July 6, local authorities reported that the power outage was the result of a Ukrainian Armed Forces attack outside the city. 'Due to technological disruptions caused by external influences, a mass disconnection of consumers occurred across all cities and districts of the Republic of Crimea on high-voltage networks,' local Telegram channels stated.

Following the strike, a fire broke out at the 330 kV Simferopol electrical substation, located near the village of Strohonivka on the outskirts of Simferopol. This same substation had previously been targeted on June 25, 2026.

As of now, only a handful of shops equipped with generators remain open, and they are accepting cash payments exclusively. ATMs are nonfunctional, and bank branches are closed. The occupied region is grappling with ongoing power disruptions, fuel shortages, and severe logistical breakdowns. Occupation authorities have also reported restrictions on public transport and social services.

Russian officials have acknowledged the problems with fuel and electricity supply, while Russian propagandists are now openly discussing scenarios in which control over supply routes to Crimea could be lost.

The current situation in Crimea highlights the mounting difficulties faced by the occupation authorities amid ongoing military operations.

The blackout, coupled with water and communication outages, is likely to fuel social tension among the local population. Moreover, disruptions to logistics and fuel deliveries pose additional challenges to the region's economy and daily life, potentially leading to long-term consequences for stability in the area.

The recent blackout is not an isolated incident, as power disruptions and fuel shortages have been escalating in Crimea following ongoing attacks. This situation underscores the vulnerability of the region's infrastructure and the potential for further crises as authorities struggle to maintain essential services amidst mounting challenges.
