Russia Cracks Down on Drug References in Literature

Separately, news reports highlight that Russia has identified drug propaganda in works by Lenin and Mayakovsky. Specifically, the books in question are Mayakovsky's 'War and Language' and Lenin's 'The Donkey Bridge.' As of March 1, amendments to the law 'On Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances' took effect, establishing criminal and administrative liability for distributing works that mention drugs.

Russia's Ministry of Digital Technologies has approved a procedure for labeling such books. Under these rules, a warning must appear on the cover of each publication.

This incident involving Bode Miller not only draws attention to the athlete's personal life but also highlights the broader societal issue of drug use. The detention of a globally recognized sports figure may spark discussions about the impact of drugs on athletics and health. At the same time, new Russian laws mandating warnings on books that reference drugs underscore the state's growing concern over drug advocacy, which could have lasting effects on the cultural landscape. Together, these stories reflect worldwide trends in combating drugs and their influence across different areas of life.
