Parliamentary elections in Ukraine will take place 60 days after the war: what about local elections
Parliamentary elections in Ukraine
According to Главком: Parliamentary elections in Ukraine will automatically take place 60 days after the state of war ends. This means that citizens will be able to elect their representatives to the Verkhovna Rada without delays, as according to current legislation, after the cessation of the state of war, the legally defined period for the announcement of the electoral process begins. According to Serhiy Dubovyk, Deputy Head of the Central Election Commission (CEC), this process should take place in 60 days.
Features of local elections
However, the conduct of local elections has its own peculiarities. A separate act from the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is necessary for their implementation. The Electoral Code clearly states that simultaneous holding of nationwide and local elections is impossible. This may complicate the situation in the context of post-war recovery of the country.
Dubovyk also emphasized the importance of considering security conditions for holding elections and funding. According to him, conducting future elections may cost the state at least UAH 20 billion. At the same time, he noted that there may be problems with funding in the conditions of the post-war period:
“We will not have funds for various types of elections in the post-war period”

Dubovyk also pointed out the functions of the CEC, which include:
- defining the forms of protocols
- preparing ballots
- organizing the electoral process
In these circumstances, it is important for all stages of the elections to be properly prepared and organized to ensure their transparency and legitimacy.
These parliamentary elections are an important stage for the restoration of democratic processes in Ukraine after the end of the state of war. However, financial and security challenges may affect their conduct, which will require additional efforts from the state and relevant bodies. Consideration of these factors is critically important for the successful implementation of the electoral process and the restoration of citizens' trust in government institutions.
