Challenges in negotiating an end to the war

According to ХВИЛЯ: The negotiations to end the war between Russia and Ukraine face serious difficulties, the main one being the territorial issue related to the future of Donetsk. US Vice President Jay D. Vance noted that the parties have begun to speak more openly about the limits of possible compromises, however, the timelines for potential concessions remain uncertain.

During the negotiations, Russia expresses a desire to control Donbas, while Ukraine considers the possibility of losing Donetsk. This issue remains the main sticking point between the parties. Jay D. Vance emphasized that control over the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is also up for discussion, adding complexity to the overall situation.

“The breakthrough we made is that all issues are now on the table.” - Jay D. Vance

However, he also expressed doubts about the timelines for possible agreements, noting: “It could be in 12 months, or it could be later.” The US Vice President assured that the parties will “try to resolve it” and continue negotiations, however, sitting at the table today, he cannot confidently state that a peaceful settlement will be achieved.

Outcomes of the negotiations

The outcomes of the three-day negotiations held in Florida were summarized by the representatives of the parties - Umerov and Witkoff. Despite the results achieved, the situation remains tense and the prospects for peace are uncertain.

The situation surrounding the negotiations indicates the complexity and multifaceted nature of the conflict. Territorial issues, in particular control over Donetsk and the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, remain in the spotlight and could be decisive for future compromises. Defining timelines for possible agreements remains an open question, which could impact stability in the region and relations between countries.
