A tanker exploded off the coast of Libya that had previously visited Russian ports
According to glavcom.ua: An explosion occurred on the oil tanker Vilamoura off the coast of Libya, which was carrying one million barrels of oil. This information was provided by Bloomberg agency.
Currently, the Vilamoura is being towed to Greece, where specialists will assess the extent of the damage. A spokesperson for TMS Tankers reported that as a result of the explosion, water began to flood the ship, leading to the flooding of the engine room. The cause of the explosion is still unknown.
According to Bloomberg, there have been several mysterious explosions on oil tankers that had previously visited Russian ports. This has led ship owners to check their vessels for mines using divers and underwater drones.
According to consulting company Vanguard Tech, since the beginning of this year, explosions have occurred on four other ships that also visited Russian ports.
Recall that in April there was an accident with a Russian oil tanker near Sakhalin, which caused a spill of petroleum products in the Tarado Bay. Also, there was a similar accident near Kamchatka, when two tankers caused an ecological disaster in the Kerch Strait that Russian authorities are still trying to overcome.
The situation with the explosion of the oil tanker Vilamoura off Libya is just one of many similar accidents involving vessels that visited Russian ports. This has raised concerns among ship owners, who have begun to pay more attention to safety and mine-checking on their ships to prevent such incidents in the future.
