Paul McCartney Records Silent Track: Why Stars Protest Against AI
Legendary musician Paul McCartney has joined the global protest against the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the music industry. He recorded a 'silent' track for a collective protest album, which will be part of a project called 'Is This What We Want?'.
The project brought together thousands of musicians in the UK and featured participation from global stars such as composer Hans Zimmer, pop singer Kate Bush, The Gorillaz vocalist Damon Albarn, and the band Pet Shop Boys.
The main goal of the album is to express protest against legislative changes in Britain that could allow AI companies to use authors' music to train their algorithms without their permission.
Each track on the album consists of letters forming the phrase: 'The UK government must not legalize music theft for the benefit of AI companies', which is a direct call to protect musicians' intellectual property.
'Artificial intelligence helped finish a new Beatles song'
Earlier, Paul McCartney revealed that AI was used to complete the last Beatles song, which is scheduled for release in 2023, adding music under John Lennon's voice from the demo recording of the song 'Now And Then'. It is also worth mentioning that artificial intelligence has already been used to create a music video for Ukrainian singer Tayanna's song 'Neabyshcho'.
Paul McCartney's participation in the protest against the use of AI in the music industry expresses his support for musicians in their fight for copyright protection and against the unauthorized use of their music during legislative changes.
