Poland will require builders to construct bomb shelters in new buildings from 2026

Poland introduces bomb shelters in construction
З початку 2026 року усі нові будівлі в Польщі повинні будуть відповідати новим стандартам, що включають обов'язкове облаштування укриттів.

New Requirements for Builders in Poland

According to Главком: Starting in 2026, Poland will introduce new requirements for builders that will compel them to design and construct bomb shelters in most new residential and public buildings. This decision is a response to growing security challenges in the region. Donald Tusk's cabinet has allocated 3.8 billion euros (16 billion zlotys) in the 2025 budget for the construction and modernization of shelters.

Strengthening Poland's Defense Capabilities

Furthermore, Poland continues to strengthen its defense capabilities by spending 5% of its gross domestic product on the military. Alongside the construction of bomb shelters, the country is completing the creation of a large-scale defense complex along the border. The cost of the project to create a network of anti-drone fortifications will exceed 2 billion euros. Financing for this project will be provided through the European SAFE (Security Action for Europe) program.

Government representative Cezary Tomczyk stated that over the next two years, a network of anti-drone fortifications will be set up along Poland's eastern borders. Thus, the new requirements for constructing bomb shelters become part of a broader security strategy aimed at protecting the country in the face of modern threats.

This decision by Poland reflects growing security concerns in the region, especially in light of tensions related to conflicts in neighboring countries.

The introduction of new requirements for the construction of bomb shelters and investments in defense structures can be seen as an attempt to adapt to new challenges facing European countries. These measures may also affect the investment climate and the plans of builders in Poland, as the new standards require additional costs and time for implementation.
