Over 355,000 Candidates Take the 2023 Model National Multi-Subject Test
2023 NMT Main Session
According to Главком: The main session of the National Multi-Subject Test (NMT) began on May 20, 2023, and will run through June 25. This year's exam follows the 2023 format, requiring applicants to take three compulsory subjects-Ukrainian language, mathematics, and Ukrainian history-plus one elective. The number of questions varies by subject: tests in Ukrainian language, Ukrainian literature, Ukrainian history, biology, and geography each contain 30 items; chemistry has 24; mathematics and physics have 22 each. Foreign language tests-covering English, Spanish, German, and French-include 32 items.
Registration and Participation Rules
More than 355,000 participants have registered for the main NMT session, an increase of 43,000 compared to last year. Test results will be available in personal accounts by July 3. Each subject's raw score will be converted to a scale of 100–200 points.
Admission to testing centers (TECs) starts 30 minutes before the exam and ends 5 minutes before it begins. Participants must bring:
- their NMT participant certificate;
- an original identity document or its digital version in the Diia app.
Test-takers are advised to bring a pen, and optionally a water bottle and a snack. Paper drafts will be provided in the exam room. However, participants are prohibited from carrying any devices that can read, process, store, or reproduce information, as well as printed or handwritten materials.
If participants cannot complete the test due to shelling, prolonged air raid alerts, or health issues, they are eligible to take the NMT during additional sessions. To qualify for an extra session, they must submit a request before leaving the exam room or within three days to the Regional Centers for Educational Quality Assessment.
'It is crucial that the participant's condition is documented in the TEC records. Without such a record, accessing the NMT during additional sessions will be impossible,' noted the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment.
Additionally, test scores for each NMT subject will only be disclosed after completing the second stage of tasks. 'If you wish to note your test scores, please contact the senior instructor after finishing both stages, and they will provide you with a sheet to record the results,' the UCEQA stated.
The main NMT session is a critical milestone for many applicants seeking to continue their education at Ukrainian higher education institutions.
This session is vital for applicants, as test outcomes directly influence their chances of admission to universities. The increase in participants compared to last year may reflect a growing interest in higher education. The provision for additional sessions in case of unforeseen events-such as shelling or health issues-showcases the assessment system's adaptability and its focus on test-takers' needs.
As the current session unfolds, preparations for the next NMT are already underway. Invitations for the 2026 Multi-Subject Test are beginning to be distributed, ensuring that future candidates are informed and ready. For more details on this upcoming testing cycle, you can read about it here.
