United and Delta face lawsuits over windowless seats: millions of passengers may be entitled to compensation
Airlines United Airlines and Delta Airlines under class-action lawsuits
According to glavcom.ua: Two major American airlines, United Airlines and Delta Air Lines, are facing class-action lawsuits over the sale of window seats that are actually located between them. The law firm Greenbaum Olbrantz, representing the interests of the passengers, filed lawsuits in federal courts in San Francisco and Brooklyn. This was reported by 'Glavcom' citing The Guardian.
It is noted that, unlike other carriers, such as American Airlines and Alaska Airlines, United and Delta do not inform passengers about the absence of a window near certain seats. According to the calculations of the lawyers, each of the airlines has sold at least one million such seats. Therefore, the companies may become subject to claims for millions of dollars in damages for passengers.
«Passengers who pay for window seats may instead find themselves next to a wall without windows, even though Delta and United charge dozens, and sometimes hundreds of dollars for these seats,» the article states.
The complaints indicate that some Boeing 737, Boeing 757, and Airbus A321 aircraft have seats that are usually located next to windows, but in reality, they are not due to the location of air conditioning ducts, electrical lines, or other components.
Concern for passenger comfort
The court documents emphasize that for many passengers, having a window is important, especially for those who suffer from claustrophobia, nausea, or fear of flying. «Windows can captivate or distract a fidgety child. Many people are afraid to fly, suffer from claustrophobia, or experience motion sickness on planes, and windows provide them with greater comfort in a stressful environment,» the lawsuit states.
The lawsuits reference a screenshot from an airline ticket purchase application where selecting a seat near a window leads to receiving a seat without a window.
Lawsuits against United Airlines and Delta Air Lines for windowless seating may demand millions of dollars in compensation for affected passengers. For many people, having windows on an aircraft is important for a comfortable flight, especially for those who have specific phobias or discomfort during flights.
