According to glavcom.ua: On the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language, October 27, thousands of Ukrainians participated in the Radio Dictation of National Unity-2025. The text 'We Must Live!' was written by the author Yevheniya Kuznetsova, and it was dictated by actress Natalia Sumska. This year's dictation was marked by a number of rarely used and difficult words that could have puzzled the participants. This was reported by 'Glavkom' citing Suspilne Culture.

Difficult Words of the Dictation

  • ne vpisyli - an adverb meaning 'not to full strength'; it is written together;
  • po-spravzhnomu - an adverb with the prefix po-, written with a hyphen;
  • sukni z lelitkami - lelitki mean shiny circles or the flower;
  • mizh'yarya - a word with two apostrophes, the first between the prefix and the root, the second after the hard r;
  • dopirow - a dialect word meaning 'just now', 'only';
  • pityatko - a dialectism that means 'chick';
  • kiyakhy - a dialect word denoting corn cobs;
  • pivtonty - a complex noun, written together;
  • sknyly - means 'to languish, to suffer from monotony or fatigue';
  • gryzota - a synonym for 'mental torment' or 'internal suffering'.

Celebration of the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language

Let us remind that the radio dictation of national unity is an annual event, launched in 2000, aimed at uniting Ukrainians around their native word and promoting literacy. Participants from all over the country and the diaspora write the text simultaneously, and after the publication of the official version, they can check their knowledge. This year’s dictation 'We Must Live!' was prepared by writer and translator Yevheniya Kuznetsova, and it was dictated by the People's Artist of Ukraine Natalia Sumska.

The author of the dictation Yevheniya Kuznetsova noted that the text unites Ukrainians. Regardless of the complexity of the words or punctuation, participants discuss the results together and share impressions.

Meaning of the Holiday

Today, October 27, the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language is celebrated, which is an important event in Ukraine's cultural life. The holiday aims to raise awareness of the importance of the Ukrainian language as the foundation of national identity.
