U.S. Defense Secretary and British Analyst: Russia Has Failed in All Its Strategic War Aims
Russia's Unfulfilled War Aims
According to Главком: According to U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hagget and British journalist Charles Moore, Russia has failed to achieve any of its strategic objectives in its war against Ukraine. Their analysis focuses on the military outcomes and draws parallels with the Second World War. Despite currently occupying roughly 20% of Ukrainian territory, Russian military casualties have surpassed 325,000 killed. This high cost for limited gains underscores a significant strategic failure for Moscow.
Historical Parallels and Ukrainian Resilience
In a historical comparison, Hagget noted that the Soviet Union took less than four years to fully defeat Nazi Germany. In contrast, Ukrainian armed forces have demonstrated remarkable effectiveness; for instance, Ukrainian drone operators have proven more successful than some professional NATO units. This capability has enabled Ukraine to block Russian ships in ports and destroy submarines.
Against this backdrop, the U.S. Defense Secretary also expressed the view that Vladimir Putin is preparing to declare 'victory' in the war, regardless of the actual situation.
“Putin is preparing to declare 'victory' despite the reality on the ground. This can be expected, no matter the outcome. Fortunately, the bravery of the Ukrainians and the allies who stood with them, especially early in the war, has deterred and defeated Putin from achieving what he wanted, which was all of Ukraine,” Hagget stated.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated he is prepared to meet with Vladimir Putin after developing a joint plan of action with Donald Trump and European partners. These statements point to ongoing diplomatic efforts amid the military conflict and highlight the complex dynamics at play. The war, now in its third year, continues to evolve with both sides adapting their strategies, particularly in the use of modern technology like drones.
