Russia Deploys Fresh Disinformation Campaign to Sabotage Child Evacuations

A New Wave of Russian Propaganda Emerges

According to Главком: The Center for Countering Disinformation reports that Russia has launched a new propaganda offensive aimed at disrupting the evacuation of civilians from frontline areas in the Donetsk region. Pro-Russian sources are actively circulating a video featuring a woman who claims to be a resident of Myrnohrad. In the video, posted on April 3, 2026, to the Twitter account GLAVCOM, she alleges that Ukrainian police are kidnapping children and imprisoning mothers who refuse to evacuate for terms of seven years or more. She further states she hid her newborn child from the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This disinformation campaign is part of a long-standing Russian strategy to manipulate civilian populations in conflict zones.

The Center notes that such horrific narratives are a classic Russian propaganda tactic, in use since 2014, reminiscent of the 'crucified boy' case in Sloviansk. Russian propaganda outlets are also spreading claims about Ukrainian soldiers using illegal substances. For instance, they allege that a group of over 30 Ukrainian saboteurs near Kupiansk attempted an attack while under the influence of drugs.

Targeting Ukraine's International Security Partnerships

In a related effort, Russian media published over 200 articles designed to discredit Ukraine's security cooperation with Middle Eastern nations. These information attacks coincided with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's visit to Saudi Arabia. According to monitoring by the Center for Strategic Communications, on March 26 alone, some 7,300 materials about Ukraine were published across 120 different resources.

The Center for Countering Disinformation emphasizes that Russia's goal is to intimidate parents in frontline areas, making them refuse evacuation and leave children in active combat zones.

"The enemy resorts to such manipulation to use the local population, particularly children, as a 'human shield,'"

representatives of the Center stated. This disinformation strategy continues to cause alarm within the international community and requires heightened vigilance from Ukrainian authorities. In the ongoing Donbas conflict, propaganda remains a key tool for influencing civilians and destabilizing the region, underscoring the critical need for proactive measures to protect people and counter false narratives.

In addition to the alarming narratives surrounding child evacuations, Russia has intensified its disinformation tactics by promoting false claims about Ukrainian forces near Kupiansk. This strategy aims to undermine Ukraine's credibility and disrupt international support.
