Russians struck a market in Druzhkivka: dozens of explosions and possible casualties

According to glavcom.ua: In the early morning of August 2, the Russian army launched an attack on the market in Druzhkivka, which is under temporary occupation. This was reported by Denys Kazansky, a journalist and former representative of the Donetsk region in the Trilateral Contact Group. According to him, the attack took place at a market where there were many people, and there may be many casualties.

“Druzhkivka. The Russian army struck the market in the morning when it was full of people. I can’t even imagine how many casualties there are. An absolute nightmare. This is how the monsters 'help the residents of Donbas,'” Kazansky noted.

Local Telegram channels confirmed the information about the attack on the market and the 'Aurora' store, and there were at least 10 explosions heard in the city since early morning. Information about the injured and destroyed buildings is currently being clarified.

According to the Freedom TV channel, Russian troops are currently actively operating in the Pokrovsk direction in Donetsk and in the Kursk region of Russia. Army General of Ukraine and former head of the Foreign Intelligence Service Mykola Malomuzh emphasizes that Pokrovsk is a key point for expanding the activities of the Ukrainian armed forces in Donetsk, while retaining part of the Kursk region undermines President Putin's prestige.

A report by the Institute for the Study of War notes that the capture of Chasiv Yar could open several avenues for Russian troops for further offensives on the Ukrainian belt of fortifications in Donetsk, putting the cities of Kostiantynivka, Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, and specifically the site of the attack, Druzhkivka, at risk. The Russian army aims to exhaust the Ukrainian defenses through slow advancement, as demonstrated by the dynamics of military operations from 2023 to 2025.
