Russian Strike on Zaporizhzhia Kills Civilian, Damages Homes
Military Attacks Target Zaporizhzhia and Other Ukrainian Regions
According to Главком: A Russian military attack struck the regional capital of Zaporizhzhia, resulting in civilian casualties, fires, and destruction. The strike ignited a fire that killed one person and injured four others. Private homes and non-residential buildings were damaged. The full scale of the destruction and the condition of the injured are still being assessed. An air raid alert remains in effect across Zaporizhzhia and the surrounding region, with residents reporting further explosions. Emergency services are on the scene. These attacks are part of a wider pattern of strikes on Ukrainian cities far from the front lines.
Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, commented on the situation, stating:
“Unfortunately, one person has died. The enemy attack on Zaporizhzhia caused a fire, damaging private houses and non-residential buildings.” - Ivan Fedorov
According to Fedorov, four people were preliminarily reported as injured.
Attacks on Other Ukrainian Cities
In addition to the strike on Zaporizhzhia, on April 20, the Russian Federation also carried out drone attacks on other Ukrainian cities. In particular, in Pryluky, Chernihiv region, the occupiers hit a district police department, partially destroying the building and injuring a local resident. Information about this incident has been entered into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which covers violations of the laws and customs of war.
During the night of April 20, Russian forces attacked Mykolaiv with strike drones, damaging:
- an apartment building;
- a number of private homes;
- passenger vehicles;
- power lines;
- tram tracks.
Furthermore, an attack in the Kyiv region resulted in one casualty and damage to houses.
These events underscore the ongoing escalation of the conflict in Ukraine, where Russian forces are actively using drones to target civilian infrastructure. The attacks on populated areas like Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, and Pryluky highlight the continued threat to civilians caught in the crossfire. Emergency services continue to work on the aftermath of the attacks, while law enforcement agencies are investigating these hostile actions.
In a related incident earlier this month, a similar strike in Zaporizhzhia resulted in the tragic death of an elderly woman and significant damage to local infrastructure. This highlights the ongoing threat to civilians in the region as attacks continue to escalate. For more details on this earlier event, click here.
