Arrests Made in Serbia

According to Главком: Serbian authorities have detained two men suspected of plotting a crime against the state and planning an assassination attempt on President Aleksandar Vučić. The Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs announced the arrests, identifying the suspects as residents of the city of Kraljevo, born in 1975 and 1983. They will be held for up to 48 hours before formal charges are filed and they are handed over to the Higher Prosecutor's Office in Kraljevo.

Details of the Alleged Plot

According to the investigation, the suspects prepared for the crime between December 2025 and February 2026. Their alleged plans included:

  • forcibly changing Serbia's constitutional order;
  • overthrowing the country's highest state bodies;
  • organizing the acquisition of weapons;
  • attacking President Vučić and members of his family.

Employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were also identified as potential targets. This case highlights ongoing security challenges in the Balkans, where political tensions can sometimes manifest in extreme threats.

In a separate but related development, a court in Poland has convicted a citizen from the town of Hrubieszów for working for Russian intelligence. The individual was found guilty of gathering security information about Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport, a critical logistics hub for military aid to Ukraine. The collected data could have been used to plan an assassination attempt on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

These incidents underscore a tense political climate in the region, where threats related to terrorism and foreign espionage remain persistent concerns. The arrests in Serbia may indicate heightened vigilance by law enforcement, while the Polish case demonstrates how international security can be compromised by foreign agents. Such events can have serious implications for stability across Central and Eastern Europe.
