How much currency is allowed to be taken abroad in 2026

In 2026, Ukrainians will be able to take any amount of cash abroad, but without extra formalities, it is allowed to transport only a limited limit. If this limit is exceeded, the currency has to be declared and the source of its origin verified. This is stated in Novyny.Live.

As explained by the National Bank of Ukraine, individual residents can take cash out of Ukraine up to an amount of 10,000 euros equivalent without submitting any confirming documents. This limit is applicable on the day of crossing the border and applies to any currency.

Exporting currency from Ukraine in 2026 without declaration

If the amount of cash does not exceed 10,000 euros equivalent, customs control is carried out without additional procedures. If this threshold is exceeded, the citizen is obliged to declare the funds and provide documents that confirm their legal origin.

Such documents may include:

• bank statement on cash withdrawal from one's own account;

• certificate of currency exchange operation;

• other financial documents that confirm the source of the funds.

Exporting currency from Ukraine in 2026 and liability for violations

For non-declaration of cash exceeding the established limit, financial liability is provided. According to Article 471 of the Customs Code of Ukraine, the fine is 20% of the amount exceeding.

For example, if a person attempts to take out 15,000 euros equivalent, they must declare 5,000 euros. In this case, the fine will be 1,000 euros.

The NBU emphasizes that compliance with declaration rules allows avoiding fines and delays at the border, especially considering upcoming changes in the rules for crossing the EU external border, which will come into effect in 2026.

It is reminded that Ukraine plans to introduce new border crossing rules for passenger cars using an electronic system "eQueue".
