Heatwave Eases Across Ukraine: Dry Skies Dominate, but Storms Loom in the West and Southeast
Weather Forecast for Ukraine on July 16
According to ХВИЛЯ: Ukraine’s weather outlook for July 16 signals a retreat from the recent heat, with most areas set to remain dry. However, brief showers and thunderstorms may hit Transcarpathia, the Carpathian region, and the southeastern parts of the country. According to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, a zone of slightly higher atmospheric pressure will influence the nation on that day.
Winds are expected to come from the northwest at speeds of 5 to 10 meters per second. Overnight temperatures will range between +15°C and +20°C, climbing to +25°C to +30°C during the daytime. In the capital, Kyiv, the mercury is forecast to settle around +26°C to +27°C, with no significant precipitation anticipated.
Regional Temperature Breakdown
In the Sumy, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, and Poltava regions, temperatures will be slightly cooler, hovering between +23°C and +27°C.
“Some are already grumbling that half the summer is gone, while others are happy that half the summer still lies ahead,” said meteorologist Natalka Didenko.
Overall, July 16 will bring warm conditions across Ukraine, with thunderstorms possible only in select areas.
This forecast highlights a gradual departure from the scorching temperatures seen in prior days, a shift that may benefit farmers and those planning outdoor activities. The prolonged heat had potentially stressed vegetation and water supplies, so the cooling trend could improve the country’s environmental conditions. On the flip side, anticipated rains in western and southern regions might boost soil moisture, offering a welcome advantage for agriculture.
As the recent heatwave subsides, it's important to reflect on the extreme conditions that preceded this relief. Just a few days ago, temperatures soared to a staggering 38°C in many parts of the country, prompting concerns about the impact on health and agriculture.
