Washington Offers Mediation but Refuses to Engage in Fruitless Talks
U.S. Role as Mediator in Negotiations
According to Главком: The United States is willing to serve as a mediator in talks between Ukraine and Russia, but has no intention of wasting time on a process that yields no results. This statement was made by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. According to him, the United States has already acted as a mediator in this process, but so far it has not produced fruitful outcomes for several reasons.
He also noted that if an opportunity arises to act as a mediator that brings both sides closer to a peace agreement, the U.S. would like to take advantage of it.
“We do not want to waste our time and invest effort and energy into efforts that do not bring progress,” said Rubio.
Talks Between Ukraine, Russia, and the U.S.
Three rounds of negotiations have taken place between Ukraine, Russia, and the United States. A new phase of talks was planned for early March, but it was postponed after the start of the U.S. operation against Iran. As a result, Russia officially acknowledged that it sees no point in a new round of trilateral negotiations. This is linked to Kyiv's refusal to withdraw its armed forces from Donbas, a demand by Moscow and a precondition for a ceasefire.
Thus, the situation remains tense, and the prospects for further negotiations are currently uncertain. The United States remains open to participating in the peace process, but only if it can be productive.
“Our position, ultimately, is this: this war is a tragedy,” emphasized Marco Rubio.
Currently, the U.S. position in the context of Ukrainian-Russian negotiations highlights the complexity and ambiguity of the peace settlement process. Russia's refusal to continue talks due to unacceptable conditions from Ukraine indicates deep disagreements between the parties and complicates the prospects for achieving peace. The continuation of the conflict continues to negatively impact security in the region, leaving the U.S. and other countries interested in stabilizing the situation.
