The Specialized Criminal Court of Slovakia issued a verdict against 72-year-old Juraj Cintula, who planned an assassination attempt on the country's Prime Minister Robert Fico. The pensioner was sentenced to 21 years in prison for a terrorist attack. The defense requested to classify Cintula's actions as an attack on a public official, which could have resulted in a less severe punishment, but the court found him guilty of terrorism.

The attack on Prime Minister Fico occurred in May last year when the assailant opened fire during a government meeting. Fico sustained injuries and remained in serious condition for an extended recovery period. The reasons for the attack, according to Cintula himself, were related to disagreement with government policy and restrictions on freedom of speech.
