U.S. Manufacturing Loses 100,000 Jobs Under Trump Tariffs, Labor Data Shows

Bureau of Labor Statistics data: Trump's tariffs
Під впливом тарифів Трампа в США втрачені сотні тисяч робочих місць у промисловості.

U.S. Manufacturing Sector Job Losses

According to ХВИЛЯ: Analyst Mikhail Shteynbok, citing U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data, states that the U.S. economy has shed manufacturing jobs following the imposition of tariffs during Donald Trump's presidency. Trump's economic policy aimed to bring production back to the U.S. through high tariffs. However, according to Shteynbok, the results of this policy have been unfavorable.

Consequences of the Economic Policy

Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates the U.S. economy lost 92,000 jobs in February, and since January 2025, the manufacturing sector has lost 100,000 jobs. Shteynbok noted that:

“Since January of '25, that is, this year of Trump in power, minus 100,000 jobs in manufacturing, specifically in manufacturing. So all these tariffs, whose supposed goal was to bring manufacturing back to the U.S.... it led to the opposite effect because production supply chains were disrupted, and this hurt business more than it helped in any way.” - Mikhail Shteynbok

Furthermore, Shteynbok expressed the view that the introduction of tariffs has led to increased inflation. 'The American consumer bears the brunt of the financial burden from the tariffs. And I, as a person who has lived in America for more than 3 years now, can say that everything here is set up so that people consume,' added the analyst. The conservative publication Wall Street Journal has also expressed certain positions regarding these economic changes.

The loss of manufacturing jobs in the United States highlights the negative consequences of an economic policy based on imposing tariffs. This may indicate a need to rethink approaches to supporting domestic production and to seek more effective ways to stimulate economic growth. Rising inflation and job losses could have long-term consequences for the economy, affecting consumer welfare and the overall state of the labor market. The debate over tariffs often centers on their impact on domestic industries versus the costs passed on to consumers.
