Texas Commits $700 Million to Build New Arena for the Dallas Stars
Funding Secured for Dallas Stars Relocation
According to Главком: The Plano City Council in Texas has approved financial backing for the NHL’s Dallas Stars to relocate. A total of $700 million will be allocated toward constructing a new hockey venue, with the entire project estimated at roughly $1 billion. The team plans to move into the new arena by 2031, once their lease at the American Airlines Center expires.
Originally based in Minneapolis, the Dallas Stars relocated to Texas ahead of the 1993–94 season. This major funding decision marks a significant milestone in expanding the region’s hockey infrastructure.
Hockey World Mourns a Legend
Sadly, this announcement comes alongside news of the passing of legendary hockey player Claude Lemieux. Lemieux, who was 60 years old, died on May 28, 2026. He is remembered as one of only nine players in history to win the Stanley Cup with three different franchises. In 1995, he was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the NHL playoffs’ most valuable player.
Donald Trump, commenting on the loss, stated: 'Claude Lemieux, a true hockey legend and one of the brightest athletes the sport has ever seen, has passed away. Claude was a friend of the Trump family.'
These events highlight the growing importance of professional hockey in Texas, especially as the Dallas Stars prepare to move-a clear sign of rising interest in the sport across the region. At the same time, the loss of Claude Lemieux serves as a reminder of the immense contributions individual players make to hockey culture, and how quickly the sports landscape can shift. Together, these two stories reflect both the opportunities and the challenges facing the hockey community.
The ongoing developments in Texas's hockey scene raise questions about the future of the NHL as a whole. With the potential for new cities joining the league, the evolution of professional hockey could take exciting turns, further enhancing the sport's popularity and reach across the United States.
