Trump sues BBC: what was the reason for the scandalous lawsuit
Trump intends to sue BBC
According to glavcom.ua: US President Donald Trump stated that he is 'obligated' to sue the BBC for distorting his comments that took place prior to the attacks on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, reports 'Glavkom'.
On Monday, Trump expressed his position in an interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham. 'Well, I think I have an obligation to do it,' Trump said, commenting on his intention to sue the British media company for what he considers a distortion of his statements.
The incident with BBC and resignations
It should be noted that in a letter to the BBC sent by his legal team, Trump demands that the corporation immediately retract the program, stating that it is 'false and defamatory'. The legal address contains three main demands: the publication of a retraction, an apology, and material compensation. If these demands are not met by November 14, 2025, Trump promises to file a lawsuit.
This incident has caused a serious internal scandal at the BBC, leading to the resignation of CEO Tim Davie and news department head Deborah Turness. The BBC has already apologized for the 'misjudgment' regarding the editing and explained that the goal was only to convey key points from Trump's speech in a shortened format. However, the mixing of excerpts from speeches that occurred with a gap of over an hour created the impression that Trump was calling for violence.
After the BBC's resignations due to this agreed scandal, Trump continues to insist on the truth of his statements and plans to support his position in court.
