Trump urged Putin to stop the war: They have lost about a million soldiers
U.S. President Donald Trump during a meeting with Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the White House urged Putin to stop the war against Ukraine and expressed disappointment with the Russian dictator.
'Putin must stop', said the American president, adding that he would like Turkey 'to stop buying any oil from Russia while the RF continues its aggression against Ukraine.'
Trump emphasized the catastrophic losses of Russia in the war. 'I am very disappointed in Putin... They have lost about a million soldiers. And I will never call anyone a 'paper tiger', but Russia has spent millions and millions of dollars on bombs, missiles, ammunition, and lives - their lives - and has practically gained no land. I think it's time to stop', he noted.
The American leader highlighted the special role of the President of Turkey in resolving the conflict. 'Both Putin and Zelensky respect Erdogan. Everyone respects Erdogan. I really respect Erdogan. He can have a significant influence on the war in Ukraine if he wants to, but he prefers to be neutral', Trump said.
The U.S. President admitted that he overestimated his ability to quickly end the war. 'I have resolved seven wars, and I thought this would be one of the easiest to resolve. But I am very disappointed in Putin', he acknowledged.
Trump also stated that the U.S. is ready to immediately lift sanctions against Turkey. During the meeting, issues regarding F-35 and F-16 fighters, the situation around Halkbank, and conditions in Gaza were discussed, where, according to the American president, 'we are nearing an agreement.'
