Tuvalu may disappear by 2050: the first ever evacuation of an entire nation

Flooding is intensifying. The island is disappearing underwater.
Тувалу може зникнути до 2050 року: перше у світі переселення цілого народу.

Tuvalu, located between Australia and Hawaii and consisting of nine coral atolls, is home to about 11,000 people. The island of Funafuti is only 50 centimeters above sea level, making it vulnerable even to moderate storms or tides.

The small island nation of Tuvalu in the Pacific Ocean may disappear from the world map as early as 2050 due to rapid sea level rise. According to scientists' forecasts, more than half of the capital Funafuti may be submerged by the middle of the century, and by its end, up to 95% of the country's territory could be underwater.

The Tuvalu government has begun preparations for the evacuation of its population by entering into the Falepili Union Treaty with Australia, under which 280 citizens of the country are granted residency in Australia each year to escape the immediate threat of flooding.

In addition to land loss, Tuvalu's residents also face the threat to their cultural heritage. The government is working on digitizing cultural values to preserve them for future generations.

The incredible warming of Europe

Europe is the region where temperatures are rising the fastest, exceeding the global average by twofold. Despite 2024 being the hottest year on record, 2025 is on track to break this record.

Summary: Tuvalu, a small island nation in the Pacific Ocean, is facing a serious threat of disappearance due to rising sea levels. The government is already working on evacuation plans and preserving cultural heritage. At the same time, Europe continues to experience a sharp decline in climate and warming.
