Elections in the Czech Republic: Babis's victory threatens support for Ukraine
The ANO party of former Prime Minister Andrej Babis won the parliamentary elections in the Czech Republic, but did not gain enough mandates to form a majority government. The populists received 35.4% of the votes, corresponding to 84 seats in the Chamber of Deputies.
The center-right 'Together' bloc led by Petr Fiala came in second with 22.7% of the votes. Other parties also received voter support, but the left-populist bloc 'Enough!', created by the communists, did not overcome the 5% barrier to enter parliament.
A possible government formation under Babis's leadership is anticipated, although his party did not receive a direct majority and the communists did not enter parliament. The likelihood of forming a coalition with extremist forces such as the SPD or 'Enough!' is low due to certain circumstances and the position of President Pavel.
