Prague Court Hears Case Against Criminal Gang: Four Ukrainians and a Czech National Face Kidnapping Charges

Trial in Prague of criminal group: Ukrainians and Czech woman accused
Суд у Празі розглядає справу про викрадення, в якій фігурують чотири громадянина України та один чеський підозрюваний.

Trial Commences in Prague

According to Главком: A trial has begun in Prague for a group accused of kidnapping and robbery, crimes which took place in April 2025. The five defendants include four Ukrainian citizens and one local Czech woman. The incident shocked the local community and drew significant attention from law enforcement authorities. This case highlights ongoing concerns about transnational crime within the European Union.

The kidnappers held a 21-year-old woman locked inside a car, twice using pepper spray against her. One of them pointed a weapon at her to force compliance. In an attempt to save herself, the victim partially followed their demands by instructing a neighbor to hand over a phone. The neighbor, recognizing the dangerous situation, locked the woman and her 'guard' in a room and called the police. This decisive action enabled officers to apprehend the suspects.

Further Developments

Three of the defendants have admitted guilt but deny acting as an organized criminal group. The charges also include laundering 260,000 Czech crowns obtained through fraud. The court will continue to hear the case to determine the final fate of the accused.

This incident is part of a broader pattern of criminal activity in the region. Recently, a 41-year-old Ukrainian man, Dmytro Kopanytsia, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for attempted murder. Kopanytsia attacked a 36-year-old Ukrainian citizen with a knife in June 2025 in the town of Uherský Brod.

Other news from the Czech Republic involves the extradition of Ukrainian MP Dmytro Shkavrytko, a former member of the 'European Solidarity' party. He is accused of embezzling funds from the budgets of educational institutions in Ukraine. The Tysmenytsia District Court placed him in custody for submitting false documentation regarding salary payments to school employees.

The Prague trial reflects growing issues with organized crime and security, causing concern among the public and law enforcement. The suspects' actions underscore the need for stronger measures to combat such crimes. Furthermore, the MP's extradition case signals an intensification of anti-corruption efforts in Ukraine, which may have longer-term implications for the country's political climate.

The ongoing trial in Prague is not an isolated incident, as the region has witnessed various criminal cases recently. For instance, a beauty salon robber received a seven-year sentence for breaking curfew during his crime spree. Such cases highlight the growing concerns over public safety and the effectiveness of law enforcement in dealing with organized crime.
