Buses and trams in Zaporizhzhia to get armored window film amid ongoing attacks
Protecting public transport in Zaporizhzhia
According to Главком: In response to relentless Russian shelling, authorities in Zaporizhzhia are ramping up safety measures for public transport. As part of a new initiative, the windows of buses, trams, and trolleybuses will be coated with a special blast-resistant film. In addition, new shelters are planned near transit stops and in crowded public areas. Local industrial enterprises are stepping up to help build these protective structures.
Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, stated that during a meeting with regional industrial firms, he requested assistance in setting up shelters.
“Almost everyone responded and has already started working. The Red Cross will deliver 10 additional shelters this month and another 10 by the end of August,” Fedorov said.
Anti-drone nets and the city's current situation
The city is also continuing to install anti-drone nets as another layer of security. For instance, in Zaporizhzhia’s Cosmonaut District, a Russian drone struck one of these nets, successfully shielding nearby vehicles. The same armored film now being applied to public transport windows has already been used in hospitals, social care facilities, and government buildings.
These safety upgrades come on the heels of a recent attack in which Russian forces struck a gas station in Zaporizhzhia, killing one person and wounding three others.
“We are doing this so that windows shattered by blast waves do not injure residents,” Ivan Fedorov emphasized.
Overall, Zaporizhzhia is rolling out a comprehensive strategy to better protect its residents from the dangers posed by Russian shelling.
These developments highlight the severity of the situation in the region and the urgent need to adapt to new threats. Strengthening public transport and shelter infrastructure can significantly reduce risks for civilians during future strikes, while also boosting overall urban safety. The active involvement of industrial enterprises in these efforts reflects a joint commitment by local government and businesses to safeguard the population amid an ongoing armed conflict.
As authorities in Zaporizhzhia implement new safety measures for public transport, they are also addressing security concerns at transit stops, especially in light of recent drone attacks. Enhanced protocols are being introduced to protect passengers and ensure their safety during these challenging times.
