Fuel Crisis and Logistics Strikes

According to Главком: The Ukrainian military has launched a campaign to isolate the temporarily occupied Crimean peninsula through coordinated attacks on land, sea, and air supply routes. This week alone, 76 vessels attempting to transport fuel across the Sea of Azov were hit. Strikes have intensified at six key logistics hubs in Crimea, including the Chongar Bridge and the Henichesk crossing. The 390-mile R-280 Novorossiya highway is now under fire control, and a ground-level oil terminal at the Kerch port has also been targeted.

As a result, Russian occupation authorities have completely halted fuel sales to private individuals, triggering a gasoline shortage that now affects at least 78 of Russia’s 83 federal regions. Black market gasoline is being sold for up to $25 per gallon. Last year, Russian tourists contributed roughly £45 million to the local economy, but now nearly 79% of hotel bookings for the summer season have been canceled. Electricity blackouts occur almost daily, and in some areas, running water is available for only one hour per day. Public transportation has ground to a halt due to the lack of fuel.

Impact on Civilians and Russian Forces

The artillery fire ratio has shifted from 2.4:1 in Russia’s favor to 1.6:1, indicating a decline in occupation force activity. The use of AI-driven drones-including American Hornet systems and models from startups like Darts, Bulava, and RAM-2X-has given Ukraine a technological edge. These drones are equipped with Starlink terminals, boosting their effectiveness in operations.

NORDA Dynamics supplied roughly 70,000 autonomous modules to the front lines throughout 2024 and now works with nearly 200 different military units. However, there is a risk that this technological advantage may last only until autumn, highlighting the need for continued action in ongoing combat operations.

The campaign to logistically isolate Crimea is having severe consequences not only for occupation troops but also for the civilian population, who face major daily hardships.

The current situation in Crimea underscores the complexity of the ongoing conflict and its toll on people’s quality of life. Worsening fuel shortages and power outages point to deep economic troubles that could have long-term effects. Cutting off the region’s logistics may become a decisive factor in the war’s trajectory, as resource constraints make it harder to sustain occupation forces. It also opens new opportunities for the Ukrainian military in the conduct of operations.

As the situation in Crimea escalates, the Ukrainian Defense Minister Fedorov has announced a strategic drone blockade aimed at further isolating the region. This move complements the military's ongoing efforts to disrupt supply lines, emphasizing the critical role of advanced technology in modern warfare.
