Ukrainian drones strike oil refinery in Yaroslavl and Slovyansk-on-Kuban
Безпілотники України завдали ударів по нафтовим об'єктам у Ярославлі та Слав'янську на Кубані.

Attacks on Russian Oil Refineries

According to Главком: On June 28, 2024, unmanned aerial vehicles targeted the Russian city of Yaroslavl, hitting the Yaroslavl Oil Refinery. The attack resulted in reports of smoke at the facility. That same night, in the Krasnodar region, the city of Slavyansk-on-Kuban experienced another assault on its oil refinery, where a fire broke out and storage tanks are now burning.

These incidents are part of a wave of strikes that began earlier in June. On the night of June 15, drones struck Tula, causing a series of explosions that ignited a fire. The following day, June 14, Novomoskovsk in the Tula region was also targeted, with the 'Azot' chemical plant hit and subsequently catching fire.

Conflict Escalation and Funding for Attacks

Additionally, on June 12, defense forces in Tatarstan targeted two oil refineries-'Taneco' and 'TAIF-NK'-in Nizhnekamsk. Fires were confirmed at both sites. Preliminary reports indicate these strikes are part of a broader campaign.

Kyiv is seeking an additional $20 billion in funding from partner nations to continue its attacks on Russia. As an anonymous senior Ukrainian defense official stated:

“Everyone can see that Russia is burning, and we want it to burn even more, but we need financing to do it.”

This remark underscores Ukraine’s intent to intensify pressure on Russian infrastructure in response to ongoing military operations.

The strikes on Russian oil refineries could significantly impact the country’s energy security, as these facilities are crucial for meeting domestic fuel needs. Given the protracted conflict, such actions highlight the rising tensions between Ukraine and Russia, as well as the strategic use of drone technology in modern warfare. Increased funding for further attacks on Russian infrastructure may signal Ukraine’s aim to ramp up its military efforts and sustain a campaign designed to degrade the enemy’s capabilities.

The recent drone strikes in Yaroslavl and Slavyansk-on-Kuban are not isolated incidents. They are part of a larger pattern of attacks on Russian oil infrastructure, which has seen significant escalation in recent weeks.
