Ukrainian-American Negotiations in Miami: Kushner and Witkoff Head to Putin
Negotiations in Miami
According to ХВИЛЯ: The Ukrainian-American negotiations on the peace plan have begun in Miami. The U.S. President's special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will head to Moscow for a meeting with Vladimir Putin scheduled for Tuesday. The negotiations, taking place at the Shell Bay golf club, are led by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov. The Ukrainian delegation also includes:
- Sergiy Kyslytsya
- Olha Stefanishyna
- Andriy Hnatov
- Representatives of Ukrainian intelligence
Context of the Negotiations
These negotiations are occurring against the backdrop of serious upheavals in Ukrainian government, as last Sunday, fundamental agreements were reached in Geneva, apart from issues of territories and security guarantees. The peace plan, which consists of 28 points, has been modified following these negotiations. At the same time, on November 28, Andriy Yermak resigned after searches by NABU and SAP.
Vladimir Putin, commenting on the situation, reiterated the ultimatum regarding territories on November 27, stating:
“If the Armed Forces of Ukraine leave the territories they occupy, then hostilities will cease. If they do not leave, we will achieve this by armed means.”
For his part, Rustem Umerov emphasized that the Ukrainian delegation has 'clear directives and priorities - to protect Ukrainian interests, have a substantive dialogue, and move forward based on the developments achieved in Geneva.'
These negotiations indicate an intensification of diplomatic efforts from both sides in the context of the prolonged conflict in Ukraine. In particular, the preparations for the meeting with Vladimir Putin in Moscow demonstrate a desire to find compromise and resolve the most complicated issues that remain after the recent agreements in Geneva. It is also important that these events are taking place against the backdrop of internal changes and challenges in the Ukrainian government, which may influence the outcomes of the negotiations.
