Ukrainian Railways Increases Bed Linen Fee to 95 Hryvnias
Ukrainian Railways Adjusts Service Pricing
According to Главком: Ukrainian Railways has raised the price for a set of bed linen in its sleeper and compartment carriages. Effective March 1, 2023, the cost increased from 80 to 95 hryvnias, a rise of 15 hryvnias per set. This follows a previous price adjustment in 2024, when the cost jumped from 50 to 80 hryvnias. Prior to these recent hikes, the price for bed linen had remained stable for nearly five years. These adjustments are a common response by state-owned transport operators to rising operational costs.
In a related move, 2025 saw the first increase in seven years for beverages sold on board trains, with prices for tea, coffee, and water doubling. The company cites various economic factors affecting its expenses as the reason for these pricing policy changes.
Seized Freight Cars and Their Impact
In a separate development, the State Property Fund of Ukraine has taken control of 1,592 confiscated Russian freight cars. These will be transferred for use by Ukrainian Railways. This measure is intended to improve infrastructure and support passenger transportation services.
The price increases for Ukrainian Railways services reflect broader economic trends in Ukraine, including growing costs for materials and maintenance. The acquisition of the seized freight cars could aid the company in enhancing its infrastructure, potentially benefiting the quality of transport services in the long term. These combined changes are significant for the many citizens and visitors who rely on the national rail network.
