Expanded Funding for Women's Training Programs

According to Главком: Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers has announced increased support for training and retraining programs aimed at bringing women into fields facing critical worker shortages due to military mobilization. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko shared the update on her Telegram channel after visiting the Vinnytsia region. The government is expanding initiatives such as training vouchers, retraining courses, and the Reskilling Ukraine program to address these gaps.

At the industrial firm Promavtomatyka-a 26-year-old company employing over 800 people-a new program called "Female Solar Station Installer" has been launched. More than 150 women have already completed training to become solar power station installers through this initiative. The government is actively working to steer women into roles traditionally dominated by men.

“The Ukrainian economy needs skilled workers. Together with businesses, we are working to attract women to professions that were previously considered male,” said Yulia Svyrydenko.

Focus on Emerging Careers

The training programs target occupations such as:

  • truck drivers
  • heavy machinery operators
  • auto mechanics
  • welders

Earlier, the government also launched a pilot project offering grants for training specialists in the defense-industrial complex and other sectors. State support for full qualification programs reaches up to 30,000 hryvnias, while partial qualification programs receive up to 15,000 hryvnias. Employers investing in workforce training are eligible for matching compensation amounts.

In addition, the Cabinet has approved the purchase of backup power sources for hospitals and schools and resolved funding issues for compensation under the eRestoration program for damaged property. In the Vinnytsia region alone, over 500 applications for such compensation have been submitted. The government has also set up mechanisms to reimburse local budgets for teacher and social worker salaries.

Through these efforts, the Ukrainian government continues to bolster the economy and draw women into a wider range of professions, helping to stabilize the labor market. Bringing women into roles once seen as male preserves not only addresses personnel deficits but also challenges long-standing gender stereotypes. This shift could mark a significant step toward workplace equality, with positive ripple effects on the nation's overall economic health.
