Ukraine Launches 'LightHome' Grant: $21 Million for Apartment Building Generators
'LightHome' Program Launched
According to ХВИЛЯ: Ukraine's government has initiated the 'LightHome' state program to fund independent power sources for multi-story residential buildings. Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko officially presented the initiative on January 28. For its initial phase, the government has allocated 800 million hryvnias (approximately $21 million USD) to assist citizens facing potential prolonged electricity blackouts.
Primary Goal of the Initiative
The core objective of 'LightHome' is to ensure housing energy independence by helping apartment residents secure backup power. Already, over 60 applications have been submitted through the 'Diia' portal by associations of co-owners of apartment buildings (OSBB). The program has allocated over 5 million hryvnias in response, indicating strong public interest.
Residents of apartment buildings can receive a grant of up to 300,000 hryvnias to compensate for the costs of purchasing autonomous power sources, such as generators and charging stations.
This is our response to the aggressor's attempts to deprive people of basic living conditions.
Oleksii Kuleba
The 'LightHome' program is poised to become a significant step in supporting Ukraine's energy stability. This initiative comes against a backdrop of ongoing challenges to the nation's energy security, particularly due to Russian aggression. With prolonged power outages a reality for many Ukrainians, the program could substantially ease daily life for apartment dwellers by providing access to autonomous power.
The engagement of communities through OSBBs demonstrates active public participation in solving the problems they face every day. The program addresses a critical need for resilience as Ukraine's energy infrastructure remains a target during the ongoing conflict.
