Briefing on decentralization reforms in Ukraine
At the briefing, the project 'Features of implementing the Concept of reforming local self-government and territorial organization of power in Ukraine' was presented. It was possible to see the Deputy Minister for Community Development and Territories of Ukraine, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, the Director of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, a Member of the Parliament of Ukraine, representatives of diplomatic missions and associations of local self-government bodies.
The project was developed with the assistance of the Council of Europe to adapt the principles of reform to the challenges of wartime and prepare Ukraine for Euro-integration. The concept defines four logical blocks, key directions, and tasks for the coming years, including the preparation of local self-government bodies according to European standards.
“With the assistance of the Council of Europe, we have developed the draft document 'Features of implementing the Concept of reforming local self-government and territorial organization of power in the conditions of wartime challenges and Euro-integration'. It preserves the principles of reform established in 2014 and at the same time adapts these principles to the challenges of wartime and prepares Ukraine for membership in the European Union. Essentially, this is an updated roadmap for communities for the coming years,” - Oleksiy Ryabikin
The organization of the event was conducted with the support of the Council of Europe within the framework of the project 'Strengthening multi-level governance and local democracy to support Ukraine's recovery'. The Office of the Council of Europe in Ukraine is located in Kyiv.
Events taking place in Ukraine regarding the reform of local self-government and territorial organization of power are carried out with the assistance of the Council of Europe. This is aimed at adapting the principles of reforms to the conditions of wartime and preparing the country for accession to the European Union. A presentation of a new project was held, which includes key directions and tasks for the development of local self-government in the coming years.
