Ukrainian Military Personnel Granted Adoption Leave: Duration and Eligibility
Special Social Leave for Adopting a Child
According to ХВИЛЯ: Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel are now entitled to special social leave when adopting a child. This significant new policy is designed to support service members in the process of building a family and raising children, acknowledging the unique challenges they face.
Under current legislation, military personnel can receive a single, paid leave of absence upon adopting a child. The duration of this leave is 56 calendar days for the adoption of one child. If a service member adopts two or more children simultaneously, the leave period is extended to 70 calendar days. Notably, public holidays and non-working days are not counted when calculating the total leave duration.
Procedure for Obtaining Leave
To obtain this leave, service members must submit a copy of the court's adoption decree along with a formal report to their commanding officer. It is crucial to note that the leave can only be granted after the court's adoption decision has entered into full legal force.
As noted by Olena Dudchenko, 'adoption leave for a child is a form of social leave.'
These new provisions help improve conditions for military personnel and their families during a difficult period. This policy is part of broader efforts to support the social welfare of those defending the country.
The introduction of special social leave for service members adopting children is a vital step in upholding family values during wartime. This innovation can positively impact the morale of military personnel who, despite immense challenges, seek to create families and raise children. The leave provides an opportunity for service members to focus on their new role as parents, which is a crucial aspect of the state's social policy in the face of contemporary challenges.
