Blood type in driver's licenses: when it is added and whether it is mandatory

According to hvylya.net: Ukrainian drivers now know when to specify their blood type in their driver's license. Since 2019, a new rule has been introduced in Ukraine - new licenses must include information about blood type and Rh factor. This is done for quicker medical assistance in case of traffic accidents.

Remember: data about blood type is entered into the license only based on a medical certificate, not the applicant's information

However, not all licenses contain this information, especially those that were issued or renewed after the introduction of the new rule. In these cases, the blood type information must be added separately.

Why sometimes there is no blood type in the license:

• Absence of relevant data in the medical certificate

For the blood type to be indicated in the driver's license, it must be specified in the medical document. If this data is not submitted when changing documents or not specified in the certificate, it will not be entered into the license.

• Voluntary nature of providing information

In new licenses, information about blood type and Rh factor is optional and is provided only at the request of the document owner. So, if a person does not want to specify this information, the field may remain empty.

Ukrainians have been explained that the blood type in the driver's license should be specified only according to medical data. Not all licenses automatically receive this information, but owners can add it if they wish.
