Petition to revoke the citizenship of Odessa Mayor Trukhanov: what is known

According to glavcom.ua: On the website of the President of Ukraine, a petition has been registered regarding the termination of the citizenship of the Mayor of Odessa, Gennadiy Trukhanov. This information was reported by the publication 'Glavkom' referring to the relevant appeal.

The author of the petition, Miroslav Otkovich, called on President Volodymyr Zelensky to consider the issue of revoking the citizenship of the current mayor of Odessa. 'In open sources, there have been multiple reports of journalistic investigations containing information about Gennadiy Trukhanov holding a passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation and a Russian tax number. These facts indicate that he has dual citizenship, which contradicts the Constitution of Ukraine,' the petition states.

Otkovich believes that under the conditions of a full-scale war with the Russian Federation, such a situation creates risks for national security and undermines trust in local authorities. 'Trukhanov's defense of state-aggressor narratives in the public space, as well as the protection of monuments that contain the symbolism of Russian imperial policy (according to the officially published list of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory), only confirms the potential risk of Trukhanov's activities for national security and the defense of the state,' the statement says.

As of 22:00, the petition has gathered almost 11 thousand votes out of the necessary 25 thousand.
