Zelensky on US negotiations with Russia: so far the Kremlin is reluctant
US-Russia Negotiations: Statement by the President of Ukraine
According to Главком: President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has commented on the US negotiations with Russia, noting that despite the active engagement of the American delegation, the Kremlin is currently not making concessions. The statement was made against the backdrop of a meeting of the 'coalition of the willing' leaders that took place on January 6, 2023, in Paris. The meeting discussed security issues and potential peace agreements.
Zelensky, who also participated in the meeting, noted that a statement titled 'Reliable Security Guarantees for a Strong and Lasting Peace in Ukraine' was made public. The American delegation held negotiations with representatives of the 'coalition of the willing' and the Ukrainian delegation, which allowed for some progress in developing a bilateral security guarantee system.
“The Americans are definitely negotiating with the Russians, discussing various options. I will respond very simply: so far, Russia is reluctant, but we have sufficiently strong partners.” - Volodymyr Zelensky
Additionally, he listened to a report from the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov concerning the work of the Ukrainian negotiating team in Paris. These events underscore Ukraine and its partners' continued efforts to find pathways to peace, despite Russia's challenging position.
The Security Situation in Ukraine
President Zelensky's statements reflect the complex diplomatic situation in which Ukraine and its allies are trying to find ways to peacefully resolve the conflict. Despite the lack of concessions from Russia, the activity of international partners and the continuation of negotiations indicate a commitment to stability in the region. This underscores the importance of support from the US and other countries in achieving reliable security guarantees for Ukraine.
