Zelenskyy: Middle East Instability Prevents Trilateral Meeting with U.S.
Trilateral Meeting Postponed
According to Главком: On March 4, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that a trilateral meeting involving the United States is currently impossible to arrange. The primary obstacle is the ongoing destabilization in the Middle East. Zelenskyy explained that given the tense situation related to Iran, the necessary diplomatic signals for such a meeting are absent. This development underscores how regional conflicts can directly impact Ukraine's diplomatic efforts on the world stage.
In his address, Zelenskyy stressed the critical importance of maintaining communication with the American side. He discussed this matter with Rustem Umerov, noting that Kyiv maintains daily contact with Washington through the Ministry of Defense and the President's Office. All Ukrainian services are also focused on the vital work of repatriating people from Russian captivity.
Threats from the Middle East
Zelenskyy convened a meeting to discuss the situation in the Middle East and the Gulf region. He identified the threat posed by Iranian attack drones and missiles. In connection with this, the president stated:
“Right now, due to the situation around Iran, the necessary signals for a trilateral meeting are still lacking. But as soon as the security situation and the overall political context allow for the resumption of that specific trilateral diplomatic work, it will be done. Ukraine is ready for this.” - Volodymyr Zelenskyy
The inability to hold the trilateral meeting highlights the complex international landscape Ukraine navigates, where events in the Middle East significantly influence global security dynamics. Ukraine's stated commitment to active dialogue with the U.S. demonstrates Kyiv's determination to preserve ties with key international partners despite existing challenges. The evolving situation in Iran and its potential impact on regional stability remain under close observation by the Ukrainian government.
