Child Benefits Reach 170,000 Families: What Changes in March
Launch of an Updated State Support System
According to Главком: Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko announced the rollout of a revamped government support system for families with children, which took effect on January 1, 2026. Since the new system was introduced, nearly 170,000 households have accessed various payment programs.
Payment Statistics
According to the data provided, a one-time birth grant of 50,000 hryvnias has been issued to nearly 28,000 women who gave birth after January 1, 2026. Maternity benefits, amounting to 7,000 hryvnias per month, have been received by almost 20,000 women. Childcare payments for children up to one year old, also set at 7,000 hryvnias monthly, have reached over 114,000 families. Additionally, funds under the eYasla program have been allocated to more than 5,280 families, providing 8,000 hryvnias each month to a mother, father, or guardian when they return to work after the child turns one.
The government plans to refine the payment system. Starting in March, parents will be able to open special accounts with Oschadbank to receive child benefits. Work is also being finalized to enable benefit applications through the Diia platform. Minister of Social Policy Denys Uliutyn explained that delays in launching the new system stemmed from technical errors when opening bank accounts.
The government continues to improve the child benefits system. We are currently finalizing efforts so that all child payments can be processed through Diia and received on a single card. We are also preparing a solution to review the deadlines for using the funds.
Yuliia Svyrydenko
The new payment system was implemented under a law passed by the Verkhovna Rada in November 2025. The legislation includes:
- a one-time payment of 50,000 hryvnias at childbirth,
- monthly childcare assistance of 7,000 hryvnias for children up to one year old,
- the eYasla program,
- a School Package worth 5,000 hryvnias for first-graders.
This overhaul of state benefits for families with children aims to strengthen social protection and support households in Ukraine, a priority given the current economic challenges. Importantly, the government plans further improvements to payment mechanisms, which could make them more accessible and convenient for recipients. These initiatives underscore the state's commitment to aiding young families and ensuring stability amid a shifting socioeconomic landscape.
As the government continues to enhance the child benefits system, families should be aware of the upcoming changes in March that will allow them to manage their payments through a single universal account. This new approach aims to simplify the process and ensure timely access to funds.
