Researchers from Fudan University in China have developed a new type of perovskite solar cells based on tin, which do not contain toxic lead but maintain a high efficiency of up to 17.7%. Chinese scientists have eliminated the main disadvantage of traditional perovskite solar panels - the presence of toxic lead. The team from Fudan University replaced it with harmless tin, making the material safe for the environment and humans.
The main problem with tin perovskites had previously been their instability, which reduced efficiency to less than 10%. Scientists solved this problem by applying a special layer of molecular film that allowed achieving a record level of solar energy conversion efficiency - 17.7%. This technology can be used in smart clothing, portable electronics, building facades, and electric vehicles.
According to glavcom.ua: Scientists from Fudan University in China have developed lead-free perovskite solar cells based on tin with an efficiency of up to 17.7%, solving the main problem of instability and the shortcomings of traditional perovskite solar panels. The development could have wide applications in high-tech industries.
